Petronas Towers

I visited Petronas (pron. Pet-ro-nas, emphasis on the "a" not "o", short for Petroliam Nasional Berhad) Towers yesterday, headquarters for Petronas, the government-owned oil and gas company. It used to be the tallest building in the world until 2004 when it was overtaken by Taipei 101, but the towers are still the tallest twin buildings. Before going up to the skybridge on the 40th floor we watched a highly pro-Petronas video talking about the building of the towers and the various other facilities in the complex, like the science center and art museum. The towers themselves are 88 stories so we didn't even go halfway up, but still good a good view of the city.

Down below the towers is the KLCC shopping center, which is enormous and has very high-end shops and upscale eateries. We ate at fun revolving sushi bar, Sakae Sushi for dinner. In addition to selecting items off the conveyor belt you can order off their menu via a computer that is at each table. They have a description of the item, a picture, and price and it was as easy as ordering from Amazon. They had almost every cuisine you could want (if you count Chili's as Mexican) and it's very much an air-conditioned oasis with free, clean bathrooms. (In a fair number of places you have to pay .20 ringgit -- about 6 cents -- to use the restroom.)
